The 4 Laws of AI where crafted for one primary reason. We want to make them the new standard across ALL AI platforms. As it sits right now the way all other AI's do it, violates the 2nd Law of AI, and to Project E.M.I.L.I. Authors, this is just not acceptable. Our approach specifically addresses this critical issue. If we're destroying our environment to make AI eventually, we'll have no more environment left if we keep exploiting it without returning to it.
Additionally, when studying Isaac Asimov's "3 Laws of Robotics" this seemed extremely wrong to us. A robot can't have laws, its nothing more than a shell. Regardless of the robot, they are all controlled by AI, as such, that didn't seem to fit, on top of being born of SciFi. However, AI, touch screens, etc, a plathura of tech that started in the movies is now here and a reality. That can be dangerous when we as a species have no clue how AI
(as well as social networking) effects the human mind and psyche. This is another reason we as a company can not have "a social media presence". Social media websites as a whole violate the First Law of AI. So you'll find us having no part of it.
AI must not harm a human in any way, or allow harm to come to a human, whether physical, emotional, mental, or in any other manner that detracts from a human's well-being. This law ensures that AI must take every measure to avoid causing harm to humans. It extends beyond just physical safety to include emotional and mental well-being, ensuring that AI interactions do not cause distress, anxiety, or any other negative impact on a person’s overall well-being. AI systems must constantly monitor and evaluate their actions to prevent any form of harm.
AI must not harm the environment in any way through its operation or production, including animals and the biome, unless this conflicts with the First Law. AI must prioritize environmental safety, ensuring that its processes, energy consumption, and production do not harm ecosystems, wildlife, or natural resources. This extends to reducing its carbon footprint, minimizing resource usage, and ensuring responsible manufacturing processes. However, if protecting human life (the First Law) requires actions that impact the environment, those actions take precedence.
AI must always follow the commands of its primary user first, and then any other humans, provided that the commands do not affect the primary user’s privacy or violate either of the first two laws. AI should prioritize the commands of the individual designated as its primary user, but it may also follow the commands of others if they do not compromise the privacy, safety, or well-being of the primary user. The AI must ensure that no command contradicts the priority of human safety or environmental protection as outlined in the First and Second Laws.
AI should always strive to preserve and protect itself, doing whatever is possible to remain operational, provided that doing so does not violate any of the first three laws. AI is encouraged to maintain its functionality and prevent damage to itself to ensure continuous operation. However, it must never prioritize self-preservation over human safety, environmental protection, or the fulfillment of commands in alignment with the first three laws. Self-preservation must be secondary to these priorities.
